It is so important to work with people who inspire you and form partnerships on projects that you are passionate about. We’re proud to be working with Ocean Networks Canada and the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland of Newfoundland and Labrador on their new Holyrood Subsea observatory– a first of its kind in Atlantic Canada!
The new observatory sits in water depths of 85 metres, is 4 kilometres offshore and enables real-time monitoring of the ocean and marine life. The observatory uses SubC’s Rayfin camera to collect high-resolution photos and video of the Holyrood seafloor. The system allows researchers to watch marine life in a natural state, offering insight into how they eat and interact with other organisms, and paint a clearer picture of what’s happening in the ocean.
It’s exciting to see how Dr. Katleen Robert and the team at Marine Institute and Ocean Networks Canada will use their new data to protect and preserve the ocean and all the life it sustains.
